Want To Understand The ‘Normal’ Brain? Try ‘The Brain: The Story Of You’

Join renowned neuroscientist David Eagleman on a whistle-stop tour of the inner cosmos.

It's a journey that will take you into the world of extreme sports, criminal justice, genocide, brain surgery, robotics and the search for immortality. On the way, amidst the infinitely dense tangle of brain cells and their trillions of connections, something emerges that you might not have expected to see: you”. So gushes the publisher. How far is it true? This really quite excellent book is about everyone’s favourite subject: ‘you’. Stanford neuroscientist and best-selling writer David Eagleman draws together contemporary neuroscientific knowledge to explain how ‘you’ emerge from that complex of cells and connections. Very readable, the book can safely be recommended to non-technical and non-academic readers. If you wanted one book to introduce a novice or interested lay person to the brain, this would be one of the best options. His earlier, equally excellent ‘Incognito’ book goes into more depth about the workings of the subconscious, but has a similar knack of linking brain substrates to observed behaviour and subjective experience.
